Mexican Bean Burrito

Answering in the affirmative to the question, ‘Do you want fries with that?’, should be something that results only in delicious consequences. However, at Fresh Mex (a Scottish purveyor of Mexican-inspired food), for an extra £0.45, you can, thinking you’re going to get a bargain side portion of fries, accidentally kind of ruin your lunch just like I did. After eating Fresh Mex’s vegetarian offering, I learned that it is actually pretty normal to put fries in a burrito. Apparently, this tradition originated in San Diego, where the California Burrito, which features French fries alongside what one might consider more typical fillings, was invented. What I am less sure is traditional, is shoving a bunch of thick-cut, soggy chips into an otherwise delicious snack. It’s a real shame because, especially in the food desert that is Murrayfield, this burrito – minus the chips – is objectively delicious. Do yourself a favour and don’t make the same mistake I did. You’ll have a much better experience for it. £12.50 is still quite a lot for a burrito, though.
